Come to Barcelona for the Long Night of Museums 2016

That special one night a year when everybody covets for cultural delight is almost here. Come to Barcelona for the Long Night of Museums 2016 this May 21st!

One of the most beautiful cities in Spain, Barcelona, is home to Gaudi’s architecture, the Picasso Museum and the National Arts Museum of Catalonia. But this is just to start with.

The Long Night of Museums is a European event that welcomes thousands of visitors from all around the world to come and see the great human cultural heritage of the world – more simply put, virtually all the local museums – for free. The night begins at sundown and ends after midnight, when museums again close their gates and fall into silence.

Back to our subject today, here are some of the (more than) 70 museums in Barcelona you can visit this coming weekend… for free! Oh, and just for your information, the event is locally called La Nit dels Museus.

The Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya is mostly renowned for the local art masterpieces of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as the romanesque church art.

If you are interested in Catalan history, the Museum d'Historia de Catalunya also opens its gates for you and sweeps you into the story this realm has to say with visual interactive displays and exciting exhibitions.

Sagrada Familia is more than just a neo-gothic church. It is a symbol of the city and one of its greatest sons, Antonio Gaudi. The architect began constructions on the site of the church in 1882 and the building has been “a work in progress” ever since.

The sea has played a pivotal role in the history of the Spaniards. Barcelona celebrates this link with the great endless sea at the Maritime Museum. It tells the story of a century of seafaring, between 1750 and 1850, with special artifacts and a view of the marina.
