Lesser known British destinations 2

Today we’ll be taking a bit of a break from our study of Portuguese and Spanish regions and take a look at some other lesser known British holiday destinations.

Glenridding in the Lake District

Glenridding is very popular with walkers and hikers because it is less tourist-centric than Windermere and Ambleside. The place has trails for all age groups and levels, and those looking for a challenge will find the village to be an ideal spot to access the country’s third highest mountain, Helvellyn. One would have to spend a lot of time walking and hiking till one would exhaust the plethora of trails available, however regardless of how much walking you do, you’ll surely want to rest your legs, and that’s when you can take a cruise along the Ullswater on a steamer or go visit the nearby Aira Force to see the sixty feet waterfall.

Southwold in Suffolk

Southwold appears to come from either a different dimension or from a different time, it’s a place that has only one road in and one road out, it is surrounded by the North Sea, the River Blyth, Southwold harbor and Buss Creek, so it can feel like you’re on an island even though you’re not. Despite, or because, of this interesting confluence of geographical characteristics, the place offers quite a few things to see and do. You can go tour the working lighthouse, check out the sand and shingle beach, take a walk on the pier and visit the rather busy harbor. Once you get done with all of those things, you can take the foot ferry across the River Blyth to nearby Walberswick village where you can do some crabbing or visit the tea rooms and the art gallery.

Weymouth in Dorset

This seaside town is positioned very well at the mouth of the River Wey. It tends to get rather busy during the summer thanks to its award-winning beaches, lakes, museums, aquarium and World Heritage Jurassic coast, just to mention a few of its attractions. There are also two shopping centers and there a Victorian fortress within walking distance of the town centre, great place.

You can check out these three places as well as many more with the help of our United Kingdom car rental services.
