Castles featured in movies: Part III

Fairy-tales are a subject one can hardly let go of so easily. Movies are also a never-ending subject of discussion. How about another tour of the greatest Castles featured in movies?

Have you ever read Dan Brown? If the answer is “yes”, you might like to see the theatrical performance of Tom Hanks as professor Robert Langdon in the big screen rendering of Brown’s famous and controversial novel, “Angels and Demons”. Castel Sant’Angelo is the setting for much of the action. This magnificent building towering over the immortal city of Rome has a spectacular history. Commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as an imperial Mausoleum, the building went on to be used as a prison (during the age of the Papal State, when Giordano Bruno was imprisoned here), military fortress in the 5th century and castle. The site is impressive, at the juncture of Vatican and Rome. You might like to go there during your visit, driving with Rome car hire.

In “Atonement”, the movie made after Ian Mcewan’s synonymous book, we find great actors James McAvoy and Keira Knightley in Stokesay Court, an impressive 1892 Victorian manor house located in Shropshire. The house was one of the first English homes to benefit from electric lighting, but had to undergo serious restoration before being used as a filming location.

As for the timeless Jane Austen novel, “Pride and Prejudice”, for the 2005 movie version, Chatsworth House in North Derbyshire, England, was used as Darcy’s home, Pemberley House, while Lady Catherine’s home was set in Burghley House in Lincolnshire, England.

Would you like to keep on dreaming about such beautiful places? If being an actor isn’t your reality, you can always be a film lover, a book reader and especially a tourist, traveling to the most wonderful places in the world.
