Birmingham trip

Birmingham trip

While on your Birmingham trip you’ll be visiting the second-largest city in England that has managed to re-invent itself thanks to some major regeneration projects.

This is very much a post-industrial city that revitalized its industrial landscapes and canals that crisscross the city leaving the grey and gloom of the past and creating glamorous shops, busy pubs and thumping nightclubs.

Obviously the past hasn’t been completely covered up, the dodgy town planning is still there, and signs of World War II bombs can still be seen here and there, but these tend to offer a particular type of atmosphere and charm to the place.

Cadbury World is definitely part of that charm, being the place to visit for any and all chocoholics who visit the place. You’ll get a glimpse into the history, production and consumption of Cadbury products, it’s a very popular site, so make sure to book in advance, especially during the summer months.

Since we were talking about the industrial past of the city, you should visit the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter. The displays here will reveal just how much gold is actually in nine-carat gold – hint: not that much – you can also see a silver 1930s card case and many other interesting artifacts from the past.

For Tolkien fans, the Sarehole Mill is a must-see place. Having been built in the late 18th century, it was a favorite haunt for the author when he was young, and it is thought that the mill and the nearby Moseley Bog were the inspiration for the Shire.

England is filled with grandiose religious buildings that you can see in many of its major cities, however Birmingham is home to one of the country’s smallest cathedrals, the Cathedral Church of St. Philip. Having been built in a Neoclassical style between 1709 and 1715, the Pre-Raphaelite artist Edward Burne-Jones created the strikingly wonderful stained-glass windows.

There are obviously many more things to see and do while in Birmingham, so make sure to employ our Birmingham car hire services in order to get the best experience possible. There are of course overall United Kingdom car rental services that will be available all around the place even if you’re not planning to stay there for long.
