2013 Carnivals around the world

Considering that we’re taking a look at festivals on a monthly basis, we should also take a look at the 2013 Carnivals around the world to get a general overview of these major events.
Spain Carnival
This Carnival is held the week before Lent, and is meant as a way for everyone to unwind and join a general party. There a parade of contestants that take the stage in some extremely flamboyant dresses made from satins and bright colors, highlighted with beads and feathers. Everyone is encouraged to take part and dress up. This carnival is celebrated all across Spain and this includes the Balearic and Canary Islands.
Croatia Carnival
Yet another Carnival that takes place before Lent however, this one is focused on driving evil spirits away. The masquerade attire is meant to scare the spirits away, especially the ‘zvoncari’ which is a group that takes centre stage in their black suits with white shirts and masks. These figures run around the streets ringing bells to keep the spirits away and an effigy is burned so as to symbolize a healthy and new beginning.
Notting Hill Carnival
This Carvinal takes place towards the end of August, on the 25th and 26th, and is held in the central London borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The carnival has been held each year since 1965 and is considered to be the biggest street festival in Europe with its over two miles of costumed entertainers, food vendors and plethora of bands and artists.
Over a million people travel to the capital of the United Kingdom to take part in the sights and sounds of this very colorful event. This year it will feature a Caribbean theme and thus get ready to enjoy some west-Indian flair and costumes, as well as traditional music and entertainers from that culture.
Regardless of which one of these events you’d like to visit, some worldwide car hire services will come in handy.
