Best European summer festivals (part 1)
Summer is closing in on the calender and this means that the summer festival season is also approaching and since Europe undoubtedly has some of the best tunes you can find we’re taking a look at the best European summer festivals to expect this year.
This is Barcelona’s major celebration of electronic music – taking place between 12-14 June in 2014 – featuring a massive number of DJs, echibitions, sound labs, record fairs and urban art.
The Sonar program is split into ‘Day’ and ‘Night’ listings, each of them having certain characteristics. The ‘Day’ listings usually feature new and up and coming acts, while the ‘Night’ programmes feature the big headline names such as Massive Attack, Rudimental and Chic featuring Nile Rodgers. The festival takes places in a bunch of venues around the city centre and this means that you can also take in various tourist sights between your favorite acts. You should keep in mind that finding affordable accommodation in Barcelona during this time might be slightly tricky.
Exit Festival – Serbia & Sea Dance Festival – Montenegro
Since 2000, Novi Sad has been host to Exit, a festival that started as nothing more than a student movement for peace and democracy in the formerly war-torn region of the Balkans. The festival is celebrated across 16 stages and part of the festival’s appeal is the diversity of its headliners, names which range from Skrillex and Gloria Gaynor to Damon Albarn. The festival gathers anywhere around 200,000 revellers each year and the prices are pretty decent, but during this time you should try to book them early.
In 2014 will be the first time when four-day Exit Festival will be continued with a three-day Sea Dance Festival in Montenegro.
The Exit Festival takes place between 10-13 July and the Sea Dance Festival will continue from 15-17 July in 2014.
