A trip to Rouen, the pearl of Normandy

Dear friends, the hot summer is a very good time to visit generally temperate and cool France, one of the most beautiful countries in the world and always an incredibly personal and wondrous experience. So today’s suggestion from us is a trip to Rouen, the pearl of Normandy.

Before you come to Rouen, it is worth knowing that Rouen is the center and capital city of Normandy, the northern region of France. It is a place dipped in history, with an impressive old architecture and wonderful medieval houses, the symbol and typical mark of Rouen.

In the middle ages, Roen used to be a pilgrimage site and today it boasts more than 50 churches, most of which are true Gothic gems. The most impressive of them is the Notre Dame Cathedral, similar in the same with the religious building with the same name in Paris. Its construction started in the 13th century but was only finished in the 16th century. Today, it is one of the largest and most imposing buildings in France.

Musée Le Secq des Tournelles is a fascinating place, where you will encounter some of the most fascinating pieces of ironware. You can visit this old Gothic church turned museum, with its original stained-glass and thousands of iron pieces from ancient times up until the 19th century and you will love this unique visit.

If you are lodged in Rouen for any given amount of time and wish to travel outside of town for a little bit, you can take your Paris car rental and visit writer Gustave Flaubert’s house in the little town of Croisset. It lies just some 6 kilometers away from Rouen and you will love the quiet and tranquility of the place, a place that inspired much literature!
