The most beautiful castles in the world – Part 1

Every girl’s childhood dream is to live in a castle – when we grow, we do realize that is not necessarily one hundred per cent erm… possible, but traveling and visiting them can be a nice compromise. So here are some of the most beautiful castles in the world – an ultimate list of the most romantic and irresistible places for any history buff and romantic geek girl.

So let’s go as far and exotic as possible with our first entry: the Taj Mahal is not only a breathtaking architectural wonder, but also a most beautiful declaration of love. Located in the Indian town of Agra, the palace is made of shining white marble and is actually an mausoleum built by Shah Jahan to preserve the body of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Commissioned in 1632, it remains one of the most amazing palaces in the world and is now a romantic – if melancholy – destination for lovers.

A visit to Japan will be an introduction to an amazing and entirely foreign experience; but it is an experience you should never hesitate to delve in. As for castles, romanticism looks different in these corners of the world, but the Matsumoto Castle or the “Crow Castle” as it is also called because of its black facade, is one of the most amazing castles in Japan. It was built in the 16th century for the Matsumoto domain and can be visited today. If you rent a car in Tokyo, you can also visit other castles in the country.

This may come as a surprise, but did you know that there are castles in the United States of America? After all, the founding fathers of the US were Europeans, so they brought a bit of their architectural craft to the new lands. Actually, the oldest castle in America is Bacon’s Castle in Virginia. It was built as early as 1665.
