Sete Cidades or, the tale of the seven cities

Sete Cidades or, the tale of the seven cities

OK, so we chose a rather fancy title for today’s article: Sete Cidades or, the tale of the seven cities. But I hope you believe me when I say that Sete Cidades, the village on the Green Island of Sao Miguel, is a true haven of peace and natural beauty and a must see for any exotic traveler.

Life on the Azores islands has a rhythm of its own and a sense of quiet and beauty. All around Sao Miguel, among pastures and mountainous landscapes, you will find picturesque villages scattered over the hills and valleys, all overlooked by the imposing figure of the dormant volcano. Sete Cidades lies at the bottom of the crater. It was thus called by the Latins in the first centuries AD, “The Land of the Seven Tribes”.

Today, Sete Cidades is a wonderful tourist spot, excellent for hikers, but the local architecture is also worth mentioning and you should stop by the Church. There are also several beaches to sunbathe nearby.

And of course, in the surrounding area of Sete Cidades, you ca visit the famous Lagoa das Sete Cidades, two wonderful lakes entwining to form the Green Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon. The water glitters in emerald shades in the morning light and goes to sleep in the mild evening light in shades of deep blue. Combine this with the vibrant green of the pastures and you have the definition of beauty and quiet.

A day trip to Sete Cidades is an excellent getaway if you are staying on the Azores Island. If you have no idea how to get there, you can employ the services of the local Azores tours. It takes a minute to book online and this way you can ensure availability and a fixed price. What matters is that you are in for an unforgettable experience on the island!
