Benidorm, a Spanish wonder

Benidorm, a Spanish wonder

The very thought of spring, fueled by the shy sun we see outside for a few minutes a day, makes us feel more and more anxious and wistful to part on another adventure. The season for traveling may not yet be open in some places, but there is a place where the rain stays away most of the time. So we were thinking today we could take a journey through Benidorm, a Spanish wonder.

One of the gems of the Spanish region Alicante, Benidorm has a rich and fascinating history, dating back 3000 years before the birth of Christ, to the Punic Roman times. Later on, it would be highly influenced by the Moors and until the 1960s, it was virtually no more than a quiet fishing village.

Today, Benidorm is a renowned holiday resort, abounding in high, modern buildings, but also traditional squares, nature and theme parks.

In summer, Benidorm celebrates the international Indie Music Festival “Benidorm Low Cost Festival”. Music has a long history here. Julio Iglesias and Raphael sang at the Benidorm International Song Festival (which was organized between 1959 and 2000).

If you are looking for a place to spend a family-oriented holiday, Benidorm is the choice for you. Terra Mitica and Mundomar are amazing theme parks that can provide awesome entertainment for every member of your “clan”. Shopping is also big here and the ladies will love both the occasional fairs and especially the large malls and commercial areas.

My own personal favorite is the Villajoyosa-based Chocolate Museum Valor, with a tasty history dating back to 1881.

Transportation is important when you are here, so you have two convenient alternatives, apart from the not-so-convenient public transportation: you can either book an Alicante transfer or call on Benidorm car rental for a private rental car at your disposal.
