Graz trip
Taking a Garz trip will have you visiting Austria’s second-largest city, and quite probably the country’s most relaxed one, while at the same time being one of Austria’s liveliest for after-hours entertainment opportunities, after Vienna of course.
The city is a very attractive place with wonderful green parkland, red rooftops and a small, fast-flowing river gushing through its centre. From an architecture stand-point, the city features Renaissance courtyards and provincial baroque palaces which blend in with innovative modern designs. There’s also a very beautiful bluff connected to the centre by steps, a funicular and an interesting glass lift. We also have to mention the fact that there’s also a large student population, and this is a reason that helps the nightlife and vibrant arts scene.
There are a lot of attractions to see and things to do in Graz, so let’s take a quick look at just a couple of them to give you an idea of what to expect.
Graz trip sights
Prunkraume is a palace that is dominated by the theme of astronomy and mythology. There’s a Planet hall, which is a crazy combination of white stuccowork and baroque frescoes, portraying the seven planets – that were known back then, the four elements as well as the 12 signs of the zodiac.
Most of the rooms have particular themes, including a Chinese room and a games room.
Schlossbergbahn is the site of the original fortress that gave its name to Graz. It’s located at a height of 473 meteres and features wooden slopes that can be reached via several paths, such as the funicular or the Glass Lift. The entire area was landscaped relatively recently and features an open-air theatre, a great restaurant-bar and a small Garrison Museum.
Uhrturm is perched on a southern edge of Schlossberg and is the city’s emblem. The story behind the tower is that the townsfolk paid Napoleon a ransom of 2987 florins and 11 farthings to spare the clock tower during his 1809 invasion.
These are just a few of the sights that Graz has to offer, keep some Graz car rental services in mind when on your Graz trip.
