Alicante claims to be a Spanish Las Vegas of sorts. The original name of the town, “Lucentum”, means “city of lights”. The most famous promenade in town is the boulevard with palm trees and excellent shopping facilities.

Nightlife in Alicante is very active. You can join the locals in one of the pubs and clubs that are open well into the late hours of night.

If you are opting for a cultural trip, among the sites you can never miss are the medieval Santa Barbara Castle, the biggest such fortress in Spain, and the 19th century San Fernando Castle. Gothic Saint Mary’s Church, built on the ruins of a Moorish castle between the 14th and 16th century, deserves a visit if you need a moment of respite.

Alicante is above all a wonderful seaside destination. The most popular beaches are the amazing Playa de San Juan, possessor of the Blue Flag European distinction, and the Guardamar Beach.

And if you wish to take a walk hand in hand with your loved one, Alicante offers the most beautiful selection of parks. El Palmeral, Lo Morant and Canalejas are just a few of the options available.
