Tirana trip

The highlight of an Albania trip simply has to be visiting its capital; any Tirana trip will start with actually getting there, and depending on where you’re coming from, you’ll have quite a few transportation options at your disposal.

For those who are already in Albania, they can use the national train and road networks, it should be noted that the country has no international train connections, and the capital doesn’t feature a central bus station, so if you’re going by bus, expect to be dropped off in some random location around the city.

Those who fly in from abroad, will be landing at the Mother Teresa Airport which is located at about seventeen kilometers from the centre of town.

One interesting method of reaching the city is by boat, even though the city is not a port, you can reach the port-town of Durres, from where you can then take the aforementioned train or bus options.

Once you’re in the city, your Tirana trip can actually start and you should make a good list of places and sights that you’ll want to see, because despite its size, the place packs quite a few things within its borders.

The main sight of the capital is the Clock Tower located in Skanderbeg Square. The tower is located right at the center of the city and it is the symbol of the capital. Being built in the 1820’s it is the oldest building in the city, and nearby you can find the Clock Towers of Albania Museum.

Right next to the Clock Tower you’ll see the Et’hem Bey Mosque. Building this mosque took around twenty-eight years, finishing in 1821. It is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful mosques in the country thanks to some very interesting decorations and artwork.

You can also visit a pyramid while you’re here, nothing like the ancient Egyptian ones, but still an interesting sight. The Piramida – or Pyramid – which is now the International Centre of Culture, is also located in the central square of the city and is now a venue for conventions and art events, even if it started life as a museum dedicated to Enver Hoxha.
