Scotland trip

Scotland trip

A Scotland trip might just be the definition of good things coming in small packages, and that’s quite interesting considering that particular saying comes from Scotland, because despite its rather small size, the place does pack in quite a few treasures.

Scotland is one of the constituent countries of the United Kingdom, located in the north of the British Isles, it has over seven hundred islands – but most are small and uninhabited – with its capital being Edinburgh while the largest city is Glasgow.

Scotland has a very rugged and sometimes dramatic geography, mountains, valleys and rolling hills following one another, all being populated by green fields and forests, not to mention the very craggy coastline.

The country has something for everyone, obviously the outdoorsman will enjoy exploring the wild countryside, while those interested in getting a taste of the local culture, there’s of course haggis, beef and smoked salmon – depending on which region of the country you’re in at any given time. And of course we can’t talk about a Scotland trip and ignore the peerless malt whiskies that one can taste here, let’s just say that whiskey enthusiasts will have their time and livers quite busy.

And that’s barely even skimming the surface, there are standing stone sites, castles and country pubs where you can take in the local colour, not to mention a variety of activities such as canoeing, caber-tossing – a solely Scotish pastime – and of course golf, one cannot overlook the fact that Scotland is in fact the birthplace of one of the world’s most famous sports.

Even though the country has been part of Great Britain, it has maintained a very separate and distinct identity throughout its history as part of the larger Kingdom, and interestingly enough it is said that 2014 might see a referendum in Scotland about whether or not to become an independent country again, or remain part of the United Kingdom.

Whether or not that happens, you can still employ our United Kingdom car hire services to take you to wherever in Scotland you want to go.
