Barcelona in December 2016

Que viva Espana! Today we consider another thrilling tourist destination for the winter holiday: let’s visit Barcelona in December 2016!

The (arguably) most beautiful city in Spain fills with joy and beauty every winter, around the much-awaited Christmas season. Devout Christian, much of the members of the old Spanish generation enjoy the complex traditions and ritualistic of the celebration of Nativity, while the kids frolic outdoors during their holidays and young people flood the shopping centers in search of the best Christmas presents.

Meanwhile, all tourists want to do is discover the heart of Gaudi’s city. Let’s unravel a few of the most exciting events scheduled for the coming month in Barcelona:

Like we said before, shopping during the holiday season is a big thing in Barcelona. Every year, before Christmas, thousands of people come to take part in The Shopping Night Barcelona. The center of events is the Paseo de Gracia, where shops stay open until morning light, there are stands with food and handicrafts and you will have the evening of a lifetime!

An equally happy fair actually also happens to be one of the oldest in Europe. It is called Fira de Santa Lucia and celebrates its 300th birthday this December! It is scheduled to take place from the last week of November up until Christmas in the Gothic neighbourhood, Avenida de la Catedral.

Until January 18th 2017, you still have the chance to see the beautiful impressionist exhibition Renoir entre mujeres. Del ideal moderno al ideal clasico. The wonderful French painter used to paint a lot of lovely ladies and you can see about 60 of them at the Fundacion Mapfre if you haven’t already seen them in Paris, at the Orangerie or Musee d’Orsay.

And what better way to end the year that on the avenida Maria Cristina, listening to the New Year Bells? The Campanadas de Nochevieja on December 31st will make you move to the next year with a huge smile on your face.

And don’t forget: you can do all of this driving a Barcelona rental car.
